How payments to us affect ranking

Which contractors appear depends on who holds an active licence and serves your area. Once they're in the comparison, the order and the badges are decided only by the rules on this page. No contractor can pay for a higher position, a "Top match" ribbon, or a "Lowest quote" or "Great price" badge.

If we ever sell advertising placement, those listings will be clearly labelled "Sponsored" and shown apart from the ranked results. They will never be mixed into the ranked list.

In both sorts, companies with no price for your project come after every company with a price. Every contractor card has a "Why this match" link that shows the reasons behind its position.

Every price is labelled with where it came from:

• Verified price

  This price comes from the company's own price list, run against your project. It is the rate the company uses for real quotes.

• Roomquoted estimate

  This company has not shared its price list with us, so our pricing engine worked out what your project should cost from local cost data. It is our number, not the company's.

• No price

  We do not have this company's price list, and our pricing engine cannot price your project for it fairly. You can still send it your project and ask for a price.

Verified prices and Roomquoted estimates sort together in one list, each clearly labelled, so you can compare every company that can price your project. A company does not move up because its price is verified, and it does not move down because the price is ours. You can filter to verified prices only on the results page.

Sharing a price list with us is free. It changes the label on a company's price, never its position.

Lowest quote

Shown on one contractor only: the single cheapest verified price for the same scope, finish and size in your comparison.

Great price

A verified price at least 15% below the local median for a comparable scope. More than one contractor can have it.

Top match

The contractor with the highest Best match score in your comparison.

A Roomquoted estimate never earns a price badge. It is our number, not a price the company has stood behind. We never show a crossed-out "was" price or compare prices for different scopes.

Roomquoted is free for homeowners. Contractors pay us:

• A fee for each homeowner-approved introduction, when you choose to send them your project.
• Later, a fee when a site visit is completed.
• No pay-per-click fees.
• We never sell or share your details before you choose a contractor.

For a verified price, we run the room type, scope, finish and size you gave us through the company's own price list. For a Roomquoted estimate, our pricing engine works out the same scope from local cost data. Either way, every price in your comparison covers the same work. How we estimate prices

Neither is a quote. A contractor confirms the final price in writing after seeing your home. The AI concept image is a visual idea, not a design or a promise of materials.

• We list local companies that hold an active licence on the city or provincial register, whether or not they have joined Roomquoted.
• A company that joins Roomquoted signs our agreement, gives us its insurance certificate and three references, and can share its price list so its prices show as verified.
• Each card shows which checks that company has passed.
• Reviews come from homeowners. Reviews tied to a job booked through Roomquoted are marked "Booked through Roomquoted".
• A listed company can ask us to correct its details or take its listing down at any time.
