How we make money

Roomquoted is free for you. When you choose to send a company your project, that company pays us a flat fee.

Nothing is added to your project price by us. We are not paid by lenders, banks, insurers, suppliers or manufacturers. We do not take a percentage of your renovation.

This is the part that matters, so it is a list and not a paragraph.

• It does not change the prices you see. A verified price comes from the company's own price list. A Roomquoted estimate comes from our pricing engine. We do not mark either one up.
• It does not change the order companies appear in. No company can pay for a higher position.
• It does not buy a badge. "Lowest quote" and "Great price" follow published rules, and only a verified price can earn one. Money is not one of the rules.
• It does not put a company in your shortlist. You pick, up to three.
• It does not give a company your name, number or photo before you approve it. Until you press the button, companies see nothing about you.
• It does not buy a "featured" slot or extra impressions. We do not sell them.

• An introduction you approved. A fee from each company you chose to send your project to, paid only once that company accepts it. Never a share of what you pay for the work.
• The same fee for companies that have not joined. If you pick a company that has not joined Roomquoted, we send it your project for you. It gets your name and number only if it joins and accepts your project, and it pays the fee then.
• Not a percentage of your project. A $60,000 kitchen earns us the same fee as a $16,000 bathroom.
• Nothing if you never approve anyone. You can look at every estimate, keep your render, and leave.
• Nothing extra if you hire them. We are not paid on the signed contract and we take no cut of the work.
• Later we may also charge a company a fee when a site visit it was introduced to actually happens. If we do, this page changes first.

Every price is marked with where it came from. A verified price comes from the company's own price list, the same rates it uses to build a real quote. A Roomquoted estimate comes from our pricing engine, which works out what the job should cost from local cost data. If we cannot price a company fairly, we show no price rather than guess. The company confirms the final price once it has seen the job.

Sharing a price list with us is free. It turns our estimate into a verified price, and it never buys a higher place in the list. A Roomquoted estimate is our own number, and we earn nothing more from it.

By default we order results by price and fit for your project. You can switch to lowest price, which sorts strictly by each company's price for your scope, verified prices and Roomquoted estimates together. Companies with no price come after every priced company. The factors are published in full on how payments to us affect ranking. What a company pays us is not one of them.

Every company you see is named on the page, with its price, the label that says where that price came from, and its rating, so you can check any of them yourself.

Two, and we would rather write them down than have you find them.

• Companies that join can earn badges; companies that have not joined cannot. Badges go only to verified prices, and only a company that shares its price list has one. Joining and sharing a price list are free, and neither changes the order.
• We earn more when you approve more introductions. That is why the shortlist is capped at three, why nothing is pre-ticked, and why you choose the names. We would rather cap it than push it.

If we ever sell placement, three things happen on the same day: this page changes, the paid result carries an "Ad" label where it appears, and it is left out of the price range and the "lowest quote" figure. A label in the small print at the bottom of a page is not good enough, so we will not do it that way.
